Every year on November 11 it saddens me to see how few WI and WII veterans there are left. Every year we have fewer of these true heroes and all we seem to have to replace them with is illiterate footballers and retarded pop divas. Modern life can be so shit.
I digress. I did the maths (not math kids, remember..like we’re actually not like American. Yet) This guy didn’t fight but his dad, his uncle..maybe his older brother probably did.
I always think this way when I see old fellahs. In this context. So I felt both energised and lucky to be able to work with someone of this generation.
He arrived on time unlike any of the 15 or so other guys we shot (thru various valid and not so valid reasons), dressed immaculately in a nice suit, crisp shirt and cufflinks.
He then proceeded to MEMORISE his lines. Spoke perfectly to camera. Sat down and did the business.
All going spiffingly well until..he came too early! He shot a half pint! I nearly puked at the sight of the white gold dust dripping away down the cracks of the sofa.
‘Don’t worry..I’ll nip out side have a fag and come and do it again!’ He said cheerily. I wasn’t so optimistic. The old f*cker muckspat more than me. I was sad.
Ten minutes later, and I sh*t you not..he walks back in with the SAME hard on..gets back into the locomotion and does another pop shot of equal measure!!!
Fuck beans.
This old git, despite being ginger is a class act. Respect is due to these old guys, even if they do smell faintly of wee. Which he did not.
Pleasure to work with a gentleman from a disappearing world. I strongly suggest you use him before he pops his clogs!
